Damage is dealt to figures (heroes or units) and sometimes objects in skirmish and campaign missions either by combat, abilities or mission effects. It is represented by the icon and accumulates on the figure or object until its health is reached or exceeded. In that case the defeated is defeated or the object destroyed. Some doors can be opened in that way. Defeated units are removed from the game. When healthy heroes are defeated they become wounded, their hero sheets are flipped and all damage is removed from them. When wounded heroes are destroyed, they are removed from the game like units.
Some abilities of figures or items can heal damage, which is also indicated by the icon. There are also damage markers of the same shape that are used to count the received damage of a figure, either by placing it next to it or on its corresponding card if the assignment is unambiguous (e.g. hero sheets).
